Founded in Paris in 1798, the Maison Lubin carries one of the oldest genealogies of French perfumery. Its founder, Pierre François Lubin, trained under Jean-Louis Fargeon — perfumer to Queen Marie Antoinette — before opening his own boutique on rue Sainte-Anne, under the name Au Bouquet de Roses. From that Parisian threshold, the house quickly won over European courts: the official supplier to George IV of England, Tsar Alexander I of Russia, and the Royal Court of France. Throughout the twentieth century, the brand changed hands several times, until in the early 2000s Gilles Thévenin — previously the creative head at Guerlain — acquired it and brought all production back to France. Today, Lubin operates as an independent house, with a semi-artisanal production in limited quantities: a choice of consistency, not marketing.
